Buy Oculus Rift Online- Oculus Touch Review

January 8, 2017 by Shrey 4 Comments

Oculus Rift has been one of the top contenders among the best PC VR headsets that we have in the market. Although it was ranked as the second best VR headset while the HTC Vive was on the top because of its motion controllers. Team Oculus has struck back, so if you buy Oculus Rift Online then you need to team it up with the Oculus Touch in order to get the best VR experiences.

HTC Vive did have the motion controllers as an advantage since these controllers made the entire VR experiences way more interactive and getting an interactive gaming session is the sole purpose of having VR. It takes gaming to a whole new level when you interact with the characters in the game and can actually duck, bend over and perform other physical movements like in real life.

How Oculus Touch makes gaming with the Rift a much better experience..

When the Oculus Rift consumer version came out, it was all that was promised, however the titles were to be played with an Xbox Controller or your desktop keyboard. Oculus developers did promise that there would be Oculus Touch arriving soon but for the time being everyone considered Vive a better package than the Rift due to its included motion controllers.

The Oculus touch includes two motion controllers and an additional tracking camera for $199. It might be a bit pricey but it is definitely worth it. The gaming experience gets better and the total price amount is the same as the HTC Vive making the Oculus Rift no more a second choice when it comes to PC VR headsets.

These controllers fit your hands perfectly and are so light that you do not feel their weight. They have a great design which positions all the fingers perfectly helping you to have a better grip while gaming. The hand actions mimicked by the controllers is amazing. Having all the controls replicate perfectly in the VR world with the touch and the added sensor makes the entire VR experience immersive and comparable to that of the Vive.

Setting up of the Oculus Touch Controllers

The setting up of the controllers is way easier, due to the instructions on the Oculus Client. It will take you hardly more than 10-15 minutes to sync the wireless controllers to the VR headset which is amazing because it saves you from utilizing another port on your computer.

Being wireless makes it less messy, otherwise, there are chances that you could trip and fall while you have the VR headset on because of too many wires or cables around you. Having made it wireless, does make things simpler and easier but there is another point worth mentioning that is they are exclusive to the rift. So, you cannot use them with any other VR headsets except the Rift, making the Oculus Rift and the Oculus Touch a package which goes hand in hand.

With the touch controllers, you get another pair of Rift sensor. It is recommended that you place the Rift sensors opposite to each other to get the best benefits. There were users who tried different orientations but placing them opposite to each other gave the best results.

Comparing the touch controller to the Vive controllers and Motion Controller in the PSVR

The comparison of the touch controllers to the Motion Controllers from the PSVR is a waste of time. The motion controllers from the PSVR are flimsy and could be annoying at times during the gameplay. The Oculus touch is way above the quality of the PSVR Motion Controllers as it is way more sensitive, accurately synced and comfortable to use during the gameplay.

The Vive controllers are again wireless and as good as the Touch controllers of the Rift, but due to a late release, the team Oculus has managed to include an additional feature which is sensing the gesture and placement of your finger on the Controller. If you are in a game and want to press the lift buttons then you can actually do it with your finger like how you do in real life. This feature has added more real world effects in the Rift supportive games and gives you a way better immersive experience.

Apart from the additional feature, every other feature is almost similar the Vive and the Rift Controllers. HTC Vive had launched its VR headset with the controllers quite some time back compared to the Oculus launching its Touch Controllers. Looking at the additional time, we had to expect the Touch controllers to be better. In conclusion, it is safe to say that the Touch controller is slightly better than the controllers you get with the Vive.

Is the Oculus Touch worth it?

Definitely, the Oculus touch helps you interact in the game and takes your entire gaming experience to an altogether different level. It makes the VR world much more convincing than just having the VR headset strap on your face and use the Xbox controller. With the Oculus Touch controllers, you can feel being in the game and actually use the weapons and interact with other objects in the game.

However, there was a slight hope that the Oculus bundle(i.e. Oculus Rift+ Oculus Touch) would be cheaper than the vive but they have the same price tags. The Touch controllers cost $199.99 and the Oculus Rift costs $599 which is almost the same as the Vive’s price tag($799) which has the controller and the headset included.

Both these VR headsets are great but when it comes to choosing among the two, one would obviously go for the Rift since it has a few additional new features because of its late release as compared to the Vive. HTC Vive is not dull in comparison with the Oculus Rift but because most of the features are almost the same including the price, the only way you can choose the right one is by looking at the easy setup, maintenance, and variety of games.

I would choose to buy the touch controllers any day because they surely are an advantage from the gaming point of view and are more fun to play with. It might be expensive but it is a one-time investment which is totally worth it(given that you already own an Oculus Rift VR headset).

Conclusion

The Touch controllers are the best addition you can have to your Oculus Rift headset. The Rift is now Vive. The touch controllers complete the VR headset and it is the best VR bundle. With over so many games, the entire VR experience with the controllers is going to be amazing.

Oculus has a number of games and a few masterpieces like the Rez Infinite and popular games like the Job Simulator. One has to admit that the Oculus Store is more heavy with VR ready games than the Steam and that gives this VR headset an added advantage. Along with the touch-enabled controllers, the gameplay is definitely going to be a lot more fun and worth the $200.

From the overwhelming selection of games to the accuracy of the touch controllers, I can think of no reason why the Touch controllers are not worth it. They complete the Oculus Rift and make the gaming a true VR experience. In the case you want to buy one then check them out on amazon.

The Oculus Rift is a super cool VR. I have been trying to get one for my computer but not really sure what I needed to run it like Operating system and ram and all that fun stuff. I actually won the VR for PlayStation from Taco Bell but I don’t have a PlayStation so I was forced to sell it. I really want the PC version. I am going to look into the Oculus touch some more.

      Hi Kenny

I wish I had won the PS VR from Taco Bell, you are indeed lucky! And yes, you need a laptop or desktop with juicy specs (i.e GTX 970 and above), so if you do not have a top notch GPU then buying a console would be much cheaper!

Shrey, I am in the market for a VR Headset and I enjoyed the review for the Oculus touch. I have a little bit of experience with VR, I received one as a gift over the holidays – an iPhone VR headset that to this date is still in the box.

I’ve tried that headset on but the apps for the headset leave a lot to be desired. At the time of opening the gift there were only two or three games to choose from the app store. One of them was a roller coaster ride that looked like the game was created in the 1980’s! Not nice!

Back to what brought me to your website and this review. I was really close to buying the HTC Vive as it is Steam’s VR of choice, but you’ve made me rethink that position. A question for you: Do you know what the highest resolutions are supported for the HTC Vive and the Ocolus Rift? I have a GTX 1080 in my PC and want to harness the power of my GPU. Thanks!

Yes, definitely! Both the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive are the best in resolution and when it comes to harnessing the power of your GPU, both the VR headsets are going to need that specs to run smoothly. I think you should definitely buy one among the two since you have all the other requirements that one needs to get started with a VR headset.
