Soon you would be seeing the revamped version of the Daydream View 2016 which is releasing on the 19 October 2017. If you have been a VR fan then you would realize that about the same time the previous year we saw the release of the PlayStation VR, boy, technology is advancing really fast.
Coming back to the Daydream View 2017 release, well there clearly are some improvements over the VR headset that was released last year and it even comes with a wider range of phone compatibility which includes a few Samsung phones as well. There are a few differences between the two versions of the Daydream View and you might want to go through a few of them-
1. Wider Phone Compatibility
The Daydream View definitely has a long list of the compatible phones which include Pixel, Pixel 2, Galaxy S8 & S8+, Galaxy Note8, LG V30, Moto Z &Z2, ZenFone AR, Mate 9 Pro and Axon 7, Porsche Design Mate 9, Moto Z Force. The Daydream View which is going to be released this year is having around 13 compatible phones on its list and the list is only going to increase with time.
I’m pretty sure within a few months time we can possibly see more compatible phones but for now, I think Daydream VR has done pretty well and if you own any of the Daydream View compatible phones then it is best that you invest in this VR headset.
Another point worth noting here is that you can use Daydream View with other phones as well which is not mentioned in the Daydream compatible phone list but the only downside is that you won’t be able to use the Daydream VR dedicated apps.
2. Field of View
The new Daydream View comes with a better lens quality and an increase by 10 degrees in the field of view. It is definitely going to make a difference when you compare the two Daydream VR headsets and the VR experience is going to be way more immersive because of the increase in the field of View.
FOV is a pretty important factor when it comes to having a much better experience and if you are a Daydream View owner then you will clearly see the difference in the VR experience on the new Daydream View because of the Feild of View. The experience just gets much more realistic and interactive which is the basic goal of having a great VR experience.
The new Daydream VR is going to be more comfortable and it even has a three-way strap in order to enable an equalized distribution of the weight of the VR headset. The previous Daydream View was said to be a little uncomfortable and many people felt that the design hurts the nose.
The new Daydream View is going to address all these problems and you are going to have a much better VR experience as the headset is going to be designed so that it is way more comfortable and you can easily wear it for longer periods of time without straining any parts of your body.
The previous headset even had light bleeding into the headset which made the experience less immersive. In order to have a VR headset that has zero light bleed and wears comfortably on your face
4. Heat Sinks
The Heat Sink was one of the major changes that you are going to see in the new Daydream View VR headset and it is going to be pretty amazing to have a VR headset with the overheating issue solved. One of the major downsides of the previous headset was that it used to get really hot in just 20 minutes of usage.
The heat sink feature probably would help in having a longer period of gameplay and with the added comfort you can even watch your movies on Netflix VR and some adult content without any interruptions. The heatsink feature is something I’m looking forward to and want to know the extent of its effectiveness.
The new Daydream VR is going to be priced at around $100 which is $20 more than the previous version. Is it worth the upgrade? Yes, totally. If you are planning on buying any one of the Daydream View compatible phones then this VR headset is definitely worth the money.
The Daydream View is almost as good as the Gear VR and if all the features that are being boasted work as well as they are said then we can definitely see some really good changes.
There are some really good changes that we can expect with the new Google Daydream View and with all the features added, I’m pretty curious to know if it would beat the Samsung Gear VR or not It possibly can if there are updates on the Daydream View in future.
This new upgraded Daydream View is definitely much better than the previous version and on the performance, front might be better than the Gear VR. If it goes at the same pace we might soon see a Daydream View VR headset with a much wider mobile compatibility which definitely might overtake the charm of the Gear VR.
On the content front, we definitely have some really good content on the Daydream VR and there are obviously going to be a few differences but with the heatsink at its best, this VR headset might be a game changer.
