Mi VR headsets have been popular for a while now. Not only are these VR headset affordable but they do offer a pretty decent VR experience for someone who wants to experience VR on a budget. Which one of the two VR headsets are better, read the complete review to find out.
Major Differences between the two VR headset
The first thing that comes to your mind when you see both the VR headset side by side is the design. Yes, there is a lot of difference between the design of the two VR headsets, the Mi VR Play is black and has a very simple shape and mostly resembles the Google Cardboard.
The Xiaomi VR Play 2, on the other hand, resembles the Google Daydream VR and it is a little lighter than the previous version of the Xiaomi VR headset. When it comes to the design the Mi VR Play 2 is definitely a bit better and the headset is more comfortable as well.
You can easily notice between the two VR headsets that the Mi VR play 2 version has a head strap that can hold the VR headset in place and this feature makes it much better than the predecessor. This headset does have a bit of light leakage but it is not way too drastic and overall the quality is pretty good.
The previous VR headset is more designed to resemble the Google Cardboard and is the like the beginner’s guide to VR. If you want your kids to use VR headsets then the previous version of the Xiaomi VR headset is perfect for it. If you plan on playing games for longer periods of time then the Mi VR play 2 is definitely better.
Another point you should note here is that the headset does not come with a three-way stray and hence you might find the fit of the headset slightly unusual. It could even be uncomfortable if the headset is worn for longer periods of time.
The difference in weight between the two VR headsets is quite a bit. The Mi VR play headset weighs around 325 grams and we thought that was light until the successor of the VR headset was made and it weighs around 185 grams which is extremely light.
Something worth taking note is that these VR headsets are light in weight and comfortable, however, both the features are taken to the next level in the Xiaomi VR play 2.
4. Heat Dissipation
The heat dissipation from the phone is better handled in the Mi VR Play 2 and the previous version is just a simple VR headset without having any specific feature to dissipate heat. However, the previous version could not be used long because of no head straps so getting the phone overheated would need a lot of upper arm strength, LOL.
5. Field of View
The FOV for the Mi VR play is around 75 degrees which is pretty good for a VR headset at the given price point. This VR headset has a decent FOV and the quality of VR experience is not that great but it is pretty much good enough for someone who just wants to watch a few 360-degree videos and get the taste of Virtual Reality.
The field of View on the MI VR Play 2 is about 93 degrees which is a much better improvement over the Mi VR play VR headset. The VR experience is much more immersive and with the increased field of view, you have a lot more to look up to in the new VR headset.
The gaming experience is enhanced in the Mi VR play 2 and the experiences look way more realistic. If you have not yet gotten any VR headset from the two then going in for the Mi VR play 2 VR headset might be the right option.
This is the most important point of discussion since this is where you get to decide which headset is worth paying for and which one is just going to be like any other VR headset out there. The point that you need to consider while looking at the content is that all Google Cardboard compatible apps are going to be playable on both the VR headset.
Both the headsets have a button on the top so accessing the large library of Google Cardboard app is going to be really easy with both these VR headsets.
There are tons of games which are available for free and are compatible with the Google Cardboard, so if you are looking for content on these two VR headsets then you can be sure that you are never going to run out of games and apps on these VR headsets.
Both the VR headsets are good considering the price point and probably the best if you are out there looking for a budget VR headset. The only thing you need is a phone that is compatible with the VR headset and an app that you want to play in VR and you are good to go.

The budget and the head strap is something you might want to consider and if you are okay with paying a bit more for the comfort on the VR headset then you should definitely go for the MI VR Play 2 VR headset.
