Oculus Go is going to be the most economically budget friendly standalone VR headset for this year. Yes, Oculus Go might release anytime in the first quarter of the year and we might finally be able to see more people indulging themselves in Virtual Reality.
This new standalone VR headset from Oculus is probably the most talked about VR headset for the past few months and we can’t wait for the release of the Consumer Version of the Oculus Go this year. The main agenda behind releasing this standalone at a price of $199 is that more people would be able to experience VR and appreciate it.
Some of the amazing features of this VR headset which makes it worth the wait are-
Comfort
The VR headset is going to be light in weight and well designed so that when you wear it, you get totally lost in the VR world and do not feel like you are wearing anything on your face. This is pretty important as most of the VR headsets tend to either feel heavy on your face and you just end up sweating while wearing it.
In Oculus Go we might see a little less of the discomfort and sweating as the developers have tried to look into this issue. Although, it would be interesting to see how far it is really going to be comfortable and if the headset really does what it claims when it releases this year. It is definitely going to be more lightweight and comfortable in comparison to the previous versions of the VR headset.
Display
1. The resolution is around 2560 x 1440 which is pretty amazing for a standalone VR headset and the fact that you have to not insert a phone or connect it to a PC is another added advantage of using this VR headset. The lenses used on this headset is relatively better than the ones that are being used on the Oculus Rift.
2. The Screen door effect which was the problem with most of the VR headsets last year is not going to be seen in this Oculus Standalone VR headset at least that is what is said by the developers. They have tried to eliminate the screen door effect in order to give users an immersive VR experience.
Controllers
The Oculus Go does come with its own dedicated controllers in the same way the Oculus Rift has the touch controllers. However, the controller with the Oculus Go is far from the touch controllers. The controller with the Oculus Go looks similar to the Daydream remote controller. It does basic tracking and it is not as good as accurate as the touch controllers.
The Oculus Go has the Snapdragon processor the same which you have in Pixel phones. Xiaomi is the official partner of the Oculus for creating the hardware of Oculus Go. The Xiaomi is producing a similar headset under the brand name of Xiaomi Mi VR Standalone and where both the VR headsets are going to have similar hardware.
Audio
The Audio in the Oculus Go is going to be from the straps on the headset which is bound to give you an immersive experience. A person sitting near you might be able to hear the sound as well, however, in the case you want to insert your own headphones, you can do that as well since the Oculus Go comes with a 3.5 mm audio jack. The audio in this VR headset is pretty good and slightly different from the usual VR headsets available.
With more VR headsets we can expect VR chatrooms to be more useful. The fact that this is a standalone means that you can take this VR headset anywhere with you and use it without any wires or cables attached. You do not need to insert a phone into the headset which makes it another best device for anyone who is getting started in VR and does not want to download VR apps on his phone.
The Oculus Go is going to be priced at $199 which is pretty midway price range in comparison to the Gear VR which is priced around $129 and the Oculus Rift which costs $399. The VR headset is wireless and if you have not yet bought a VR headset then this might be the best device to get started with.
Oculus is trying to reach the goal of including more people in VR and we might see that with the release of Oculus Go. For the release date, all we have is that it is arriving early 2018.
