Well, first it was HTC Vive and now it is out that in the next year, even Oculus will be coming out with a standalone VR headset. Apparently, the current Oculus Rift is not going to be replaced but the standalone is just going to be an addition to the current set of VR headsets that are available.
Not much has been out about the Oculus Standalone VR headset but from UploadVR all I could say is that it might be priced at around $200 which is cheaper than the current VR headset. However, the Oculus Rift and the Touch controllers had recently been shipping for around $300 so there is not much of a difference if you compare it with that offer price.
The HTC Vive is soon going to be coming out with its standalone VR headset by the end of this year and the next year will be the turn for the release of the Oculus Rift standalone VR headset. Well, it would be fun to see how these standalone VR headsets work and which of them is better just like all the HTC Vive vs Oculus Rift hype that we had a few years back.
It does not seem long for the PC VR headsets to be out and in a matter of no time, we now have standalone headsets that do not require any connection to the computer. It is definitely going to be a unique experience and with all the hype that is around, I think it is worth the wait.
For now, there is not much information out about the Oculus Rift standalone VR headset and as the time comes closer to the release there would be more interesting news out, so stay tuned.
