Even though I find them a little on the heavy side for gaming laptops, they are the best in the group of gaming laptops because of their out of the world specifications. If you are a hardcore gamer and have the gamer instincts in your blood then I see no reason why you would not consider this laptop before making any gaming laptop purchase. Design and Display
The laptop has a really cool design consisting of the logo and two led angled lines which is the standard gaming laptop look. There is a bit of detailing that you can see near the chassis and all of it adds up making the laptop look really cool. It reminds me of the Alienware laptop design even though it is slightly different, the glowing angled lines do make it look like they have few bits of design in common.
You can choose from a normal 1080 HD matte display and a 4K resolution display. That is totally on you. The hardware is powerful to handle the 4K resolution display even with graphics demanding gameplay.The only problem that can come up with the latter is that it can drain a lot of battery but when you buy a gaming laptop with a relatively heavier chassis you really do not expect to travel much with it so charging can be managed during gameplay.
The laptop does come with the latest G-Sync technology which prevents tearing and any kind of input lag which might cause the gameplay to be inconvenient. The laptop has a really amazing display quality be it the 1080 HD or the 4K resolution, I find both appealing and you could choose the one you want based on your budget.
The only reason I might go for the 4K resolution is because the hardware on this laptop can handle it and it would be really great to play games on a 17-inch laptop with high resolution and with the G-Sync feature added to it like a cherry on the top.
Keyboard and Touchpad
The keyboard and touchpad quality are amazing. The keyboard on this laptop is really amazing and it has the most comfortable keys ever. I really like the concave design given to the keys which made typing a much better and comfortable experience. It comes with backlighting and this multi-colored keyboard can never disappoint you. It is a nice blend of comfort and looks which makes one of the best keyboards I have seen on any gaming laptop.
The touchpad on this laptop is smooth and it is very accurate. However, it is pretty huge and the color of the touchpad blends with the laptop chassis which makes it a little difficult to use at times. It doesn’t have mouse buttons which is something I prefer since it makes the entire user experience much better.
Audio and Webcam
The audio is amazing and I find it way better than the Alienware series of laptops. It is safe to say that this is one of loudest audio I have heard on a laptop and it is pretty amazing how the entire room becomes a theater at max volumes. This is a gaming laptop for an audiophile and to be honest, I would not think twice before buying this beauty. The audio during the gameplay is amazing and it is clear without any jitter or disturbances which make it almost perfect for gaming in any situation.
The HD webcam on this laptop is pretty clear (Okayish) and you can record and edit videos on this easily. It has a relatively better camera quality than most of the gaming laptops. Most of the laptops have a webcam which is average but looks like this laptop will not disappoint you in any of its features.
Gaming and Graphics
The most powerful feature on this laptop is the VR ready graphics card that is installed inside it. With all the talks about the new NVIDIA pascal architecture GPU, the manufacturers at Origin actually introduced their new series of laptop within no time with the NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1070 graphics card which is pure magic. It can be easily used with VR headsets and you can plug in your Rift or Vive way too easily without any issues of input lag or tearing.
On this VR ready laptop, you can play games easily on high and ultra settings which are the maximum settings on which anyone would want to enjoy the gameplay . Although you might want to plug in your charger while you run the games on ultra settings but the gaming experience is worth it. The best gaming experience that one could possibly have is on this beast, after all, it is one of the most powerful laptops with great performance. You could easily run all the graphics demanding games at above 60 fps at Ultra Settings.
The performance of this laptop is excellent and you choose memory storage options which go from 8 GB all the way to 32 GB. With the various SSD combinations and the external hard drive storage, you could select the storage which is perfect for your needs and requirements. However, a minimum of 256 GB SSD storage is really important when it comes to a good gaming laptop and some external memory storage would be preferably good.

Battery Life and Overheating Issues
The battery life is the only thing which can possibly let you down. The battery life lasts for about 3 hours with normal use and under load which can include gaming on maximum resolution and ultra settings it will last for not more than an hour. This is slightly below average battery life but with all the other specs and their quality, I wouldn’t stress too much about it.
The laptop does not have any major overheating issues, it does heat up but the temperatures are not uncomfortable. The keyboard does get slightly hot but that is after some long hours of gameplay. The heat management is done pretty well on this laptop and it gets some brownie points for it.

The Origin Eon 17 is one of the most powerful laptops which is VR ready and along with the 4K resolution, the NVIDIA Pascal Architecture GPU just adds up to the power of this laptop. NVIDIA’s new graphics card has been around for a while and the hype and the buzz that it has created around it is amazing and all credit goes to the sudden boom in the VR world.
We would want our PCs to be VR compatible but the only reason I cringe while buying a desktop is that it is not easy to travel with one. It is a major disadvantage that the desktop has over the laptop and that is something which can bite you in the butt when you want to go over to your friend’s place and play a game. With the Origin laptop, you get the desktop feel and the way all the hardware and specs is taken care makes it one of the best VR ready gaming laptop. Many companies have tried to make a beast when it comes to VR gaming laptops and undoubtedly Origin has been successful.
