This news has spread like wildfire but it is indeed something astonishing, the PlayStation VR headsets were all sold out faster than any Hardware on Gamestop. With the announcement of the availability of the PS VR headsets, the pre-orders were all sold out within a matter of 5 minutes as reported by UplaodVR.
Now that was something quick and really fast, as the PlayStation VR headset had no high expectations from the consumers because it was not received with the same enthusiasm as the other headsets like the Oculus Rift and the Vive. The developers did expect a much lower demand due to the response of people, however, let’s hope that on October 13 we all can buy the VR headsets without any hassle that had happened in the case of the Oculus Rift pre-orders.
There was a lot of gap between the demand and supply in case of the Oculus rift due to which many consumers who had pre-ordered the rift had to wait for a couple of months longer in order to receive their consumer version of the headset.
There was even a Playstation Bundle which consisted of the PS VR and was up on Amazon for a while but it soon went out of stock. This shows that the PlayStation VR headset does have a larger audience to reach than it had expected.
According to me, the PlayStation VR is not in competition with the HTC Vive or the Oculus Rift because it is more likely that someone with the PlayStation 4 console would opt for the PlayStation VR and not for the other two VR headsets.
Sony has sold over 35 million PlayStation 4 consoles until January 2016, looking into that number we can certainly say that if these people ever think of buying a VR headset it would be the PS VR and not the Vive or the Rift. There could be a possibility that not all the PS4 owners would be interested, but you need to consider the fact that people who are moderate to highly interested in gaming would buy the PS4 and that indicates that there are high chances that they might be interested in buying the PS VR headset as well.
The PlayStation Neo is yet to release the next year September 7, which is an upgraded version of the PlayStation 4 and the PS Neo will have even better compatible games with the PlayStation VR headset. As of now, there are another 46 days for the PlayStation VR headset to launch and it is priced at $399.
