VorpX Review- Does it give the VR Experience?

March 25, 2020 by admin Leave a Comment

VorpX is a 3D driver that allows you to play a normal PC game in its VR version.

Now, there is a lot of dedicated VR content on the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive, but some amazing PC games would like to play in VR.

This is where the VorpX dives in, and you get to play normal PC games in VR.

The VorpX may not support all games currently, but some interesting selective games that we are sure would grab your attention in VR.

VorpX requires some tweaking before you can play a 2D game in 3D, but once done with it; you will not be disappointed with the results.

You should now consider that the games you play with the VorpX are not native VR games, so you can find some glitches, which is completely normal.

The main point here is to achieve a 3D version of a normal 2D game which is hard to get. So, if you can successfully do it, then you should consider most of the part done.

So one of the first things you need to know about VorpX is that it is not plug-and-play software or hardware.

There are processes that you still need to do first before playing.

VorpX is an application that allows you to access non-VR games and then play them in VR, and just like any other application, you need to access it first before accessing the games that you want to play.

Here is a simple “How To” for you to know:

  1. First, of course, you have to purchase VorpX, which costs around $40.
  2. Next, you download the VorpX client app and then register.
  3. By opening the VorpX client, you will automatically receive a registration key.
  4. Email the registration key to VorpX, and you will receive a License Key.
  5. You can now install your VorpX into your desktop with your license, and you are good to go.

This is a frustrating process sometimes, but you have to do it for your VorpX to function properly.

Some customers are quick to complain about their VorpX when they have not done the right steps before using it.

We cannot blame other users since the instructions and set up directions at the startup’s startup are in dull words that are easy to ignore.

Some people usually skip these instructions and go directly to playing their desired video games. Then come to the complaints.

A Common Misconception

See, users are so quick to complain about how their games are not working or the like. There is a manual or a guide in the startup menu of the VorpX, which you can easily ignore.

A PC game is a 3D display. The only thing you need to do is access it from different points of view, and that is where the VorpX comes into play.

With a few tweaks, you might be able to get it close to perfection. The different modes in which you can reconstruct the games are-

  • 3D Geometry
  • Z- Adaptive
  • Z-Normal

Table of Contents

  • Direct VR
  • 2. 3D Geometry(Z- Adaptive/ Z-Normal)
  • 3. Z-Buffer Method
  • Cinema mode
  • Conclusion

Direct VR

This is probably one of the best ways to project a 2D game in VR. Direct VR is by far the best among all the other options you have, and in the case you want to best use this software, this is the way to go.

However, you should consider that the games are limited with this 3D driver, and for some games, you would not get it as an option.

The games that run using DirectVR have fewer problems, making it one of the best with the VorpX.

You are going to run this every time you plan on playing the game, and there can be a few glitches initially, but with practice, you just learn how to manage everything.

You will use it with the other modes, but as said earlier, not all games are supported by Direct VR. The games that are not supported can still be run with other modes.

The Direct VR does require you to have high screen resolution since that is when it works better.

You need to do some trial and error to get what you want from this software. Hence we advise you to be patient enough.

The result is amazing, and I’m talking about how great it is to play any normal game in VR. If you can play a game with Direct VR, then you should try going that way.

There are other modes that you can go to as well.

2. 3D Geometry(Z- Adaptive/ Z-Normal)

This is the second mode that we think gives you an experience that is very close to perfection.

You should understand that using the VorpX, you will find glitches in the game because it is not a native VR game, but even then, you would love it to see your favorite game in VR.

The 3D Geometry mode works perfectly with the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive, so if you are wondering how far this mode can take, wait until we tell you more on this.

You get an almost perfect VR experience that includes additional head tracking.

The positional tracking might be an issue with a few games, but overall, we felt that the experience was pretty cool.

Taking a normal game and then playing it in VR is a whole new adventure, and once you achieve the desired results, you will love the gameplay.

Most of the games will have a 3 rd person view, but even then, the experience is very VR like, and you would find the gameplay engaging.

A few games can have head tracking issues or glitches, but there are a few other games where this just works like a charm without too many problems.

So, sometimes it can depend on the game that you are playing, but most of the games that are played in 3D geometry and not supported with Direct VR are playable, and you are going to find the experience immersive.

3. Z-Buffer Method

The Z-Buffer method, also known as the Depth-buffer method, is slightly similar to the 3D Geometry method as they both render what seems like a 2D game into an immersive 3D experience.

The issue with 3D Geometry is that shadows, colors, and reflections do not align with the objects or characters they represent.

3D Geometry offers the most impressive life-like 3D, but the Z-Buffer offers the best functionality for the display and movements.

You have all the frame rate you can get and keep it while dealing with the slightly lower display quality.

The 3D Geometry’s main problem is the display and misalignment of shadows which can cause nausea and motion sickness.

If you choose to remove that with the 3D Geometry still on, you risk losing at least 50% of your frame rate meaning your game will slow down and buffer too much.

With the Z-Buffer mode, you get a less life-like perception but you get to keep the frame rate so you do not have to worry about buffering displays.

The great thing about these two modes is that if you have a PC game that is compatible with both modes, you can switch from the Z-Buffer to the 3D Geometry while you are in-game to see the difference in real-time.

Advanced Tweaking

Some PC games have a higher resolution than others which means that using VorpX will differ in results.

With most of the games that you can play with VorpX, the basic settings are all you need to tweak the graphics, the speed, and the overall display of the game and look great.

While other games will come out looking flat or full of glitches if you only used the basic settings.

The display will not be enough for anyone who plays and you might want to consider other options for you to make the game’s display playable.

That is where Advanced Tweaking comes in. Using your Heads Up Display (HUD), you can access VorpX’s advanced settings and make adjustments from there.

You see, there should be a couple of cloud profiles that will help you render the display for a smoother one but the advanced settings will help if you cannot find the right display from the cloud.

You can adjust many things from advanced settings such as the depth, 3D separation strength, positional tracking, gamepad mapping and real-time effects which you can see as you play the game.

Cinema mode

This one can be a little different since unlike with the other modes mentioned above, with this one you are just going to feel like you are playing the game on the big 2D screen.

This may not be as engaging as the other method mentioned above but you still do get some really good experience out of this and a few games like Grand Theft Auto V would give you a 3D movie-like experience which is pretty good enough.

With some other games, you might just end up getting a big 2D screen, which then gives you another experience that might not be a real V experience but is pretty cool still.

Virtual reality cinema mode places you in a big, luxurious living room with a very large flatscreen display in the room.

The display will contain whatever is on your desktop and renders it into the virtual reality world.

This will allow you to play your games that would not be as immersive as a real VR game or a game that is really for virtual reality but it is somehow better than just your desktop display.

You are somehow one step closer to being inside the game compared to your PC game display. The thing is you can still control the game while you are somehow in the game.

Regardless of what modes you go for, VorpX is a nice software that you should check out.

You even have different viewing modes as well, all you need to do is play around with the software.

You will not get it right at the first go as it does take a lot of trial and error to reach the perfect experience.

Conclusion

You will need some time to get used to using VorpX especially if you use it on a first-person POV.

Sometimes you get a little bit dizzy because of the unnatural and misaligned colors and shadows on the game but you will get used to it.

The developers of VorpX are looking forward to improving the software and as of now, they have also improved it compared to the earlier versions.

The audio and video are now more synced and they help reduces dizziness while you are playing the game.

Make sure to check the instructions at the startup of the VorpX app and follow them to experience the best that VorpX can offer.

There are many games that you can play with VorpX especially now that they have upgraded their arsenal.

In the first version, VorpX only allowed 80 games to playe and now, they offer compatibility with over 150 games so I am sure you will find what is best for you

Regardless of what modes you go for, VorpX is a nice software that you should check out.

You even have different viewing modes as well, all you need to do is play around with the software. You will not get it right at the first go as it does take a lot of trial and error to reach the perfect experience.
