Oculus Go and the Oculus Quest are two standalone headsets both released by Facebook and in this post, we are going to compare the specs of both these headsets so that you can make a better decision on which headset is worth the investment.
Oculus Go was the first standalone headset that was released so basically it as first of its kind.
It was released to break the myth that you need to have a PC with beefy specs in order to experience VR. So, for someone who does not have a PC with some really good specs, Oculus Go paved the way.
Now, comes a newer member the Oculus Quest and honestly, we are more than thrilled as this headset has some really amazing improvements from the Go and it can change the whole VR game.
So which one I think is better? The Oculus Quest ofcourse. However, if you want to know what makes the quest better from the Go then continue reading the comparison post.

Design and Comfort
Both the headsets are a little different when it comes to the design, the Oculus Go is light grey in color while the Oculus Quest is black.
Both these headsets have a three-way strap, although the one of the Go feels a little less premium than the one that you are going to find on the Oculus Quest. The triangle at the back of the Quest gives the headset a better fit and comfort.
The padding on both the headsets is pretty comfortable. You are going to find more light leakage in the case of the Oculus Go than the Oculus Quest.
The Oculus Go weighs around 470 grams which are around 100 grams lighter than the Quest. However, you do not find the Quest heavy because of the design and equal weight distribution of the headset when you wear it.
But over a period of one or 2 hours, you might feel slightly tired, although this can happen with any headset including the Go.
The audio on both the headsets is the spatial audio solution which means you can listen to the surrounding as well while you are playing a game in VR.
This feature is pretty good but I like using my headphones as they give me a more immersive experience in comparison to just leaving it to the audio from the headsets.
Resolution and Visuals on the headset
The Oculus Go comes with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 and an LCD panel, on the other hand, the Quest has a screen resolution of 2,880 x 1,600 with OLED panels.
Now, looking at the numbers one can clearly say that the Oculus Quest has higher resolution and better visuals than the Go. It is not a drastic improvement but it definitely is better.
The OLED panels on the Oculus Quest make the images more colorful and are going to be soft in comparison to the LCD images on tehOcuus Go.
OLED panels are used in the Rift as well, hence the Oculus Quest gives you a VR experience which is closer to the RIft which is so not the case with the Oculus Go.
Don’t get me wrong, the experience is immersive on the Go but it is just not as good as on the Oculus Quest.
Tracking and Controllers
Here is the main difference that you get to see on both the headsets. The Oculus Go comes with a 3 DoF while the Oculus Quest comes with 6 DoF.
This means that with the Oculus Go you can turn your head, tilt and rotate, that is all that would be tracked in a game.
On the Oculus Quest, you can even move around the room and that would be tracked by the headset giving it more DoF. Basically, you have an experience which is similar to a PC VR headset like hte Oculus Rift or the Vive.
This is one of the major changes on the Quest making it a much better headset on the Go.
The Quest comes with Touch controllers, unlike the Go where you just have a remote to navigate in VR. This gives you a better gaming experience on the Oculus Quest in comparison to the Go.
So, overall the tracking and controllers are way better on the Oculus Quest making it the reason why we suggested you this headset at the beginning of the post.
It might be a few hundred dollars more than the Go but if you have the money then it is definitely worth the investment.
Refresh Rate and Battery Life
The refresh rate on the headset is pretty decent at 72Hz and it is the same for both teh headsets, Oculus Quest and the Oculus Go.
Even though the refresh rates are lower than that of the other PC VR headsets, the gaming experience is pretty smooth and I personally do not find any issues.
Now, moving on the battery life of the headsets, one can say that the battery life is pretty same on both the headsets and it would last you around 2-3 hours.
Yes, a full charge is going to give you a 2- hours of gameplay in which the battery life may vary depending on how graphic demanding hte game can be.
Overall both the refresh rate and battery life are pretty decent and exactly the same on the Oculus Go and Oculus Quest headset.
Games on the headset
The gaming library on the Oculus Quest is pretty similar to that on hte Oculus Rift and most of the games that you found on the rift would be playable on the Quest as well.
There can be a few selective games that might not be playable on the Quest because they might need a powerful PC but otherwise, Oculus is going to keep the platform open for the headsets.
The Go, on the other hand, would have a few limitations because of the absence of the touch controllers which definitely make it slack when you compare it with the Quest.
The Oculus Quest is relatively a powerful system and you get quite a large library of games on this headset that you might not want to miss.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Oculus Quest is the perfect standalone headset that can give you a 6DoF gaming experience, unlike the Go where you are restricted to 3DoF.
If you are on a budget and want to just experience VR then the Oculus Go can be a choice for you. Although if you are willing to invest a few more hundred dollars then the Quest is no doubt close to perfection.
When the Quest was released I personally could not wait to play all the games on the headset and watch some VR adult content which is pretty popular these days.
I felt that the quality of content on the headset was immersive and realistic, I’m never going back to any other PC VR headset. Moreover, it keeps your hands free if you want to pair the adult content you are watching with a toy.
Overall, I was pretty impressed with the headset and would definitely recommend that you check it out.
