Oculus Quest and Samsung Odyssey Plus are two headsets that are in the same price range but if you are thinking which one among these is a better investment then make sure to read this detailed comparison post where we compare each and every feature on these two headsets.
Oculus Quest is a standalone headset which is an amped-up version of the Oculus Go, the first standalone headset released by Facebook. The Oculus Quest has gotten better and it comes with some major updates from its predecessor.
The Samsung Odyssey Plus has got a similar story where it is an amped-up version of the Samsung Odyssey which is a Mixed Reality headset and during the time of the release of all the Mixed Reality headsets, the Odyssey was the best.
Although the Odyssey did get a lot of backlash during the time of release as many people found it a little uncomfortable to wear the headset for longer periods of time, the new Odyssey Plus comes with improvements in that field.
So, let’s get started comparing these two headsets-
Table of Contents
Design and Build Quality
The design of both the headsets is good but first, let’s start with the Oculus Quest. The Oculus Quest comes with the headset and two controllers inside the box.
That’s all you need for this headset and since it is a standalone headset you do not need any PC or smartphone to power the headset and there are no wires.
The headset has a headband style which is similar to the OG headset Oculus Rift.
It has a three-way strap which can be adjusted accordingly making the headset pretty comfortable to wear and I have to say that it is more comfortable than the Samsung Odyssey Plus headset.
The Samsung Odyssey Plus comes with a Halo style headband which is similar to that of the new Oculus Rift S or the OG headset, PlayStation VR.
Now, the Samsung Odyssey Plus headset does come with a better fit than its predecessor but it still depends on the person. For some people the fit of the headset was perfect and others still had an issue.
Overall, the design and build of the Oculus Quest feel more premium than the Odyssey Plus, hence it is better than the latter in this aspect.
Display and Resolution
The display on the Oculus Quest is 1440 × 1600 per eye with OLED displays. The resolution on the Quest is way better than the Oculus Rift S and many other headsets in the market.
The headset also comes with the Passthrough feature which means that you can take a peek at your surroundings without having to remove the headset.
The Samsung Odyssey Plus comes with the exact same resolution and an AMOLED display. The display on both the headsets might look similar but something that really differentiates them is the anti-SDE effect that you get to see on the Samsung Odyssey Plus.
The anti-SDE effect is really amazing as it makes everything in VR so clear and you are going to clearly see the visual difference between the two headsets.
The anti- SDE effect on the Odyssey Plus was really impressive as it made the colors look richer and gave a more immersive VR experience.
The Oculus Quest and the Odyssey Plus are both good when it comes to their display and resolution but if you want me to choose then I would say the Odyssey Plus is definitely better.
Refresh Rate and Field of View
The refresh rate on the Oculus Quest is 72 Hz which is lesser than the usual 90 Hz of refresh rate that we are used to seeing in most of the VR headsets.
The Odyssey Plus comes with a refresh rate of 90 Hz which is pretty decent and most of the headsets have a similar refresh rate. The higher the refresh rate, the less are your chances to feel motion sick, so in this case, the Odyssey Plus is a better option.
The FOV determines how immersive your experience is going to be and since both the headsets have a similar FOV, there is not much to compare.
The refresh rate is the only major difference between the two headsets and it could have been better if the Oculus Quest came with a higher refresh rate that would offer a better VR experience.
Tracking and Controllers
The Oculus Quest comes with a 6 DoF and inside out tracking. This means that you do not need to set up any external cameras(like you need to do in the HTC Vive) in order to enable the tracking of the controllers in the VR.
The cameras that enable the tracking are well built inside the headset and you are going to get nice wireless experience. You can roam around wearing the headset and you do not have to worry about the wires that come along with it.
The controllers are really easy to use and they are powered with AA batteries. The controllers are really comfortable to hold onto, just that the cover that you place above the batteries might be a little lose and does come off easily.
The Samsung Odyssey Plus, on the other hand, is a wired headset but the controllers are wireless as they too use the inside out tracking like the Oculus Quest. You do have one wire that connects the headset to the PC, as it is not a standalone headset like the Quest.
The tracking is good in the Odyssey Plus but I would prefer, the Oculus Quest any day. There are a few things that the Oculus Quest does better and that is the reason I would rate the Oculus Quest better than the Odyssey plus in this aspect.
Gaming on the two headsets
The Samsung Odyssey Plus comes with a ton of games and since it is compatible with SteamVR games, you can play almost every VR game that exists on the platform. This gives you a lot of options and if you are getting the headset now, then I must say that there are so many games that you need to try.
The Samsung Odyssey Plus is well covered when it comes to the games that you can play on it. You have a lot of options and you are not going to exhaust them anytime soon.
The Oculus Quest, on the other hand, relatively limited games in comparison to the Odyssey Plus. Since it is a new headset from Oculus, your options are not as many as you have with the Samsung Odyssey Plus.
The Oculus Quest does come with some amazing games but in comparison with the Odyssey Plus it does stand dull, so when asked which headset is better, I have to say that it is the Oculus Quest.
Conclusion
Both the headsets are pretty good and it is a little difficult to say which one is better because, on one hand, we have the Oculus Quest which has great comfort, amazing resolution, and some really nice tracking.
The Oculus Quest is a standalone headset as well so it would be a little unfair to compare this headset with the Samsung Odyssey Plus which is a PC VR headset.

Ofcourse, using the Oculus Quest is more convenient as you do not need to invest in a $1000 PC, but if you do have a PC that is compatible with the Samsung Odyssey Plus then I would recommend going for the Odyssey Plus.
The Samsung Odyssey comes with really high resolution along with anti-SDE which makes every visual in VR crystal clear and realistic.

Make sure that the Odyssey Plus fits you perfectly and you can wear it and play games for hours together without any discomfort. The comfort can be the only issue with the Odyssey Plus headset.
If you have it sorted then you could go for either of the headsets depending on what you are looking for.
