Virtual Reality has been around for quite some time and the headsets being tethered is one of the common drawbacks.

So, to overcome this situation we have VR backpacks that come with the power of a VR ready PC and reduces the wires by being on your back as you can wear them like a backpack.

A common question that would come to anyone’s mind is that won’t that be too heavy, wearing a backpack and a VR headset?

Well, honestly, No. The backpack is just like any other backpack and it would not weigh more than 5 kgs. Moreover, the weight of the backpack gets evenly distributed so you do not feel tired even after a long gaming session.

1. HP Omen X VR Backpack

The first VR backpack that comes to your mind is the one from HP. HP has two VR backpacks but this model is more towards the lower end.

Overall both the backpacks are expensive for a gamer but this one is relatively less expensive. It can work as your VR backpack and when not in use for VR, you can use it with as a part of your PC setup by placing it inside the dock.

The Dock has several ports as well so you can connect it to other accessories and it would work as good as a PC.

Coming to the features on the backpack, it comes with a 7th Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7820HK Processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (8 GB GDDR5X dedicated)  so you can play a game in their highest settings without any issues, 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD.

You can easily access the memory panel at the back and the chassis is built pretty strong and sleek. For 8 pounds, this VR backpack has a lot of power and can easily make any VR gaming experience immersive with its sharp resolution.

The backpack works easily with Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive and the equal weight distribution at the back does not make you tired.

It comes with two batteries that you can connect it to either of them while you want to charge the backpack during a gaming session. Each battery lasts about 1-1.5 hours so you have to manage your usage accordingly.

The setup comes with an excellent keyboard and mouse as well so that you can easily convert it into your home PC. Overall, this entire setup looks really cool and the design and the HP Omen Logo makes it looks like a gaming backpack.

2. HP Z VR Backpack

Since we are talking about HP, let’s look into the other backpack that we have from the same brand. This backpack is expensive and it is mainly geared towards industrial usage.

It can be used in various industries to either design the products, train the staff or maybe even show the product catalog in VR to the consumers.

This entire VR backpack is targeted towards industrial usage and hence the price. The weight of this backpack is around 4.5 kgs which is less than the previous one but honestly, it would feel almost the same.

The specs on this laptop are amazing as well. It comes with Intel Core i7 7820 HQ processor, NVIDIA Quadro P5200 graphics card with 16 GB of  RAM. It has expandable memory so you can, later on, improve it if you feel the need to do so.

Even though there is a good weight distribution and everything, you might want to take a break after a few hours of carrying this backpack on your back.

There are a few lighter ones that we would mention in the list but for now, these VR backpacks are definitely on the heavier side.

 

3. MSI VR One

MSI VR One is a VR backpack from MSI and it is lighter than both the backpacks mentioned above in the list. If you are looking for a VR backpack from MSI then you are not going to be disappointed with VR One.

MSI VR One is a 3.6 kgs backpack and it comes with some incredible features that are going to make you fall in love with this backpack.

The backpack comes with an Intel Core i7 with a GeForce GTX 1070 along with a 512 SSD. The storage could be a bit better and that is the only complaint we have with this VR backpack otherwise, it would ace all the others that we have mentioned in the list.

Apart from being light in weight, something that MSI boasts about is that this backpack is pretty quiet and you are not going to see any issues while carrying it on your back.

Something that I really liked about the backpack is that you can upgrade your graphics card. This is a pretty cool feature especially for someone who loves to upgrade the graphics card and other basic features of their computer.

Overall, MSI does have a lightweight VR backpack that is way easier to carry than the HP backpacks. They come with batteries that will last you around 1-1.5 hours making this feature similar to the other backpacks in the list.

The MSI VR One is our favorite in the list if you are looking for a consumer version VR backpack. It is available in more than one specs as well so do check out and let us know what you think in the comments below.

4. Zotac VR Backpack

This VR backpack from Zotac is pretty amazing. It works with both the HTC vive and Oculus Rift. The backpack weighs around 5 kgs and can possibly be one of the heaviest backpacks.

The other features of the backpack include Intel Core i7-6700T processor, 16 GB of RAM and NVIDIA GTX 1070 graphics card. The SSD on this backpack is similar to that of the MSI VR One, you have limited space.

That can be one of the drawbacks because if you are using it for gaming then having more space is always the way to go.

The backpack does have some good weight distribution but it still could have done better as it does get a little heavy during prolonged gameplay.

The games are pretty crisp and clear with this backpack making it perfect for VR. You would get an immersive experience but you have to be ready to take the weight, LOL.
