Horror games in VR is an extremely difficult challenge to undergo. It gets difficult when you are actually in the horror game which is exactly why we love the VR world because it takes you inside the game letting you have first-hand experiences but when it comes to a horror game, I guess I shall pass on that opportunity(LOL). Playing a horror game on the PlayStation is crazy enough but in VR is taking the creeps to yet another level!
Even though we know for sure we can pee in our pants, VR horror games are one of the best experiences and having the VR aspect added to a horror game takes it to another level! Without wasting any time let’s see some of the scariest horror games that we can play on the Vive.Without wasting any time let’s see some of the scariest horror games that we can play on the Vive.
Table of Contents
1 The Brookhaven Experiment
The Brookhaven experiment is one of the most amazing games which will take you to the environment of The walking dead and is more like a narrative game making it overall amazing gaming experience. The storytelling really gets you excited and thrilled along with the post-apocalypse situation which is quite scary.
One of the scariest horror games that one could play on the HTC Vive, the Brookhaven Experiment is one of the best games where you need to keep shooting all the creepy and disgusting monsters that come your way. This game is definitely going to be one of the best horror games we have in VR.
2. A Chair in a Room
A chair in a room is one of the most engaging VR horror games you might ever find. In this intense game, you would find yourself solving puzzles and try collecting as many clues as possible to unravel the mystery around the hospital in which you have been stranded. It is one of the most amazing VR horror games and is extremely engaging.
The narrative is broken down into 6 chapters where each of them have around 30 minutes of gameplay giving you enough time to calm down after each chapter, LOL. This game only gets better in VR and it is a mix of horror and art of puzzle solving which will get you through most of the situations.
3. Emily wants to Play
This is a narrative gameplay where you are a pizza delivery boy and encounter an odd house where you have one of your pizza deliveries. Due to the heavy rains, you decide to step inside the house for a moment soon to realize that it was one of the biggest mistakes you could have ever done.
As you enter the house the door behind you closes and the nightmare begins. You need to get out of the house and the game begins. There are a few creepy dolls and a girl named Emily who roams in the house, you need to stay away from her and try not to get locked in the same room else this could be the last pizza you would ever deliver.
4. HordeZ
HordeZ is a survival shooting game where you are trying to survive after a zombie apocalypse. This is a simple game and not packed with a bunch load of narratives. You have more of the shooting and fights with the zombies and other disgusting monsters.
The graphics in VR for this game is extremely amazing and you might like the way the developers of the game have paid attention to detailing. The game keeps you engaged and even if it isn’t as scary as the other narrative games, it is very interesting and a must try for all the Vive owners.
5. Dead Secret
This is a mystery game where you try to understand how a professor gets killed in a house but you realize soon you are the next victim. This game involves lots of puzzle solving and connecting the dots in order to unravel the mystery behind the death of the professor.
The game is extremely immersive and engaging, you would end up spending hours on the game making it engaging and addictive. With an amazing storyline and the best graphics, one could possibly ask for, this game certainly had to make on the list.
6. Marlene Act 1 Betwixt
Coming back to the shit scary titles where you almost pee your pants, Marlene Act is one of them. In this game, you are in a cottage trying to figure out what happened to your estranged sisters only to find that you are being followed by a strange unknown figure all the time.
The narrative gets creepy and quite scary after a while, and it is one of the best narrative games on the list. This game is worth trying, however, it may not be the best horror game but would always be one of the best horror games one could ask for.
7. Albino Lullaby
This game cannot be termed as a horror game but is definitely creepy and a little mysterious. The narrative gets pretty interesting where you are supposed to collect items and discover a few things about different characters. It is like a pure narrative game where initially you might feel a scared but then the fear slowly fades away due to your involvement in the narrative.
The game has amazing graphics and detailing, the entire experience is very immersive in the VR and the way the story unfolds really keeps you engaged throughout the game. I played the game twice and really liked it since it wasn’t as scary as the others on the list!
8. Euclidean
Well, this game is not exactly the kind of horror game where you are surrounded by ghosts and zombies and are petrified to death by a few jump scares. This game triggers all the natural fears that one can possibly have. The game is about geometric shapes and each of them has different features which are pretty unsettling.
The levels on this game are pretty damn hard and things get shit freaky after a while. It equals to the fear of falling from heights with scary sound effects and trust me things can get really disturbing because of the VR component.

YES!! This is what I’ve been waiting for!! Finally VR is putting on it’s big boy pants and giving survival horror fans what we want! The panic in that guys voice when he turned around to face that first monster had me in stitches, like yes this is exactly what VR was made for. I’m especially keen for the Chair in The Room. Starring in my own horror movie…so awesome

Wow!
Technology is increasing so fast! I can only imagine how awesome it’s going to be playing horror games with a VR headset on!
I’m only just learning about this new technology and I hear the work VR and AR, wha’ts the difference can you please tell me?
Also forgive me if I’m naive, is this particular headset for the PS4 console or it’s a different platform on its own?
Thanks!

This is HTC Vive which is a VR headset for PC gaming and you need a computer to run this VR headset. You do have a VR headset that goes well with the PS4 and you can read more about the PlayStation VR here.

Cool!
You’re my life savior, Shrey,
Saved me the time of trying a bunch of horror games on my HTC Vive,
I like playing these but at certain limits, so, you know, trying a lot of horror games to know which are worth playing is just something that would have made me very uncomfortable!
(Plus, spending that much time trying “horror” games is freaking scary! Lol, one is enough)
I’ll go for the Brookhaven experiment, seems spooky enough, and i noticed the diversity of weapons 😉
Thanks for sharing, you rock!

Lol, seriously it is not a fun experience when it comes to picking out the best horror games for the Vive. I’m happy that you could save your time and energy because some games are really scary and if you do not like the extreme horror games then it is best that you skip a few from the list.
The Brookhaven Experiment is pretty cool as well but I still cannot get over the Resident Evil which released in January. I played that one without any VR headset and I’m glad that I did, the game is amazing but at the same time it is way too scary.

I loved this, wish that the videos could have been longer but I did get a chance to see what it would be like. The best HTC Vive Horror Games made me think though.
What would this be like when I set it up on my surround sound. There is definitely potential with these games. Do you have a personal favorite, I liked the Brookhaven Experiment it seemed the monsters coming at you fast would be the most challenging.
Shrey says
Yeah, most of the people out here love the Brookhaven Experiemtn, I too like it but I guess I would say the dead secret was more scary for me. I mean I find the ones that are scarrier as the better ones os that is my way of picking up a personal favourite, LOL.

Them games look fantastic, I’ve often wondered what them vr headsets are like. I’m not much of a gamer mario and zonic normally do it for me. But watching some of these games and getting totally immersed with whats going on all around you has given me a different view maybe I might look into it and maybe purchase one.
Shrey says
Yes, if you are into the games that are out these days then the Vive is definitely the one for you. DO take a look around and see the different types of VR headsets discussed. If you have any questions you can leave them in the comments and I would be happy to help.

I’ve been in the market for a VR and I would love to see the reactions from my friends when they play horror games! I usually can’t handle anything horror-related like horror movies and amusement parks, but I’m willing to give VR a try!
Thanks a ton for this guide, I found it super informative and I’m going to recommend it to my friends. I definitely need to check out The Brookhaven Experiment and A Chair in a Room because those two look crazy and engaging.
Shrey says
The two games you mentioned are really engaging and scary. It is fun to play horror games in VR and it is definitely one of the best VR experiences because they feel so damn real!

HTC vive horror games are actually very addictive. I’m not sure if I can imagine any better fit than horror games though, I don’t know why I didn’t think of this genre to play on my Vive! Especially considering that horror media is my thing. Being the main character of your own horror movie sounds deliciously terrifying. I might look into this a bit more.
Shrey says
I’m shocked that you have never played a horror game on the HTC Vive. It is amazing and you should try these games sometime.
