Facebook has been giving us a lot of things to talk about in the past few months but for the gaming industry, nothing is worth talking about more than the Oculus Quest 2.
The original Oculus Quest is still known as one if not the best Virtual Reality headsets in the market right now and its successor might not take long before we get to experience it.
There has been a lot of talk on the internet about a few images that were leaked and are speculated to be the second release under the name Oculus Quest.
Oculus has not yet released an official date and name for the product so for now, we will call it the Oculus Quest 2. It has a familiar face but it is also different from the original in some features.
First off, Oculus Quest is already an amazing headset and although we thought that it can still be improved, none of us expected that it would arrive this soon.
So here, we have a list of all the things that you need to know about the new and improved Oculus Quest 2 that will surely bring more versatility and functionality to the gaming world.
Oculus has produced a lot of VR headsets that outweigh all the other headsets in the market so with the new Oculus Quest 2, we are expecting nothing less.

Table of Contents
The Design
Well first and foremost, you will notice the difference between the original Oculus Quest and the Oculus Quest 2 as the latter comes in with a clean white overall design.
Its predecessor is black so that is the main difference. The overall design is still the same because you will think that the Oculus Quest 2 is just a painted Oculus Quest if you haven’t gone through the details.
All the parts, the plastic, the straps, and the controllers are white. The only part that remained black is the insides of the controller and the foam that supports the headset.
The Oculus Quest 2 still maintains the Oculus emblem on the front of the headset and the front plate has still maintained the cameras for tracking purposes.
Tracking
Speaking of tracking systems, the Oculus Quest 2 has 4 mounted inside-out tracking cameras on the front plate with a little bit of an adjustment.
The Oculus Quest had its top cameras near each other and closer to the middle. However, the orientation of the cameras on the Oculus Quest 2 is a bit different compared to the original headset.
The top cameras of the Oculus Quest 2 are farther apart and are facing more towards the back instead of shooting straight up. They are slightly offset and it is possible that they did that on purpose.
The slightly offset cameras at the top of the Oculus Quest 2 might possibly give a wider tracking volume. This is because the original Oculus Quest had a narrow tracking system.
So you might be able to pull back arrows as far as you can with this new tracking system as it will possibly be able to track your hand movements all the way to your back.
The Strap
Do not believe what you see in the photos that were recently released as they are slightly misleading. The straps of the Oculus Quest 2 are not solid and they will not stay in place.
You see, the photos that were leaked recently are rendered so that strap appears to be a solid one-piece strap but the raw images show otherwise.
They are made out of fabric and are adjusted and locked in place via a velcro strap. The strap on the sides still has the built-in audio channels so you do not need a separate headphone.
This means that if the headset is as heavy as the past model, then you will have a hard time holding it up. So gladly, it is lighter than the original Oculus Quest.
The Oculus Quest 2 is actually designed to be at least 15% lighter than the original headset. This will allow the flexible strap to hold the weight of the headset so it does not fall out of our heads.
The Sounds
The Oculus Quest 2 has a built-in audio system and a new built-in stereo microphone. This will make the headset even better for online communication during games.
It has a 3.5-millimeter audio jack on the left side so if you have a better-sounding headphone then you can use it instead of the built-in audio channels on the side.
This feature can still be found in the original Oculus Quest. However, the Oculus Quest 2 only has it on the left side and the right-side audio jack has been removed.
Oculus Link
Oculus Link would, of course, still be possible with the Oculus Quest 2. Right beside the audio jack, you will find a type C connector that is perfect for the Oculus Link.
With the connector placed sideways, you can run the wire of the Oculus Link straight to the back so that it will only make the slightest of disruptions when you are playing with the headset.
This will allow the Oculus Quest 2 to have more options for playing and more power since it will be connected with your PC.
IPD Adjustments
The Oculus Quest 2 does not have any external IPD adjustments, unlike the Oculus Quest. This means that you cannot adjust the headset to fit your glasses while playing.
However, not to lose hope, the Oculus Quest 2 does have enough space inside the plate that seems to be able to accommodate people who use glasses when playing.
It does not show if the Oculus Quest 2 has a new proximity center yet but it does have some sort of slider inside that could possibly be the new IPD adjustment mechanism.
The Controllers
The controllers for the Oculus Quest 2 are really familiar. It has a slightly redesigned model where the battery door is placed in a safer area so it does not slide out during intense games.
It still looks like the Oculus Touch controllers so nothing drastic has been changed when it comes to the controllers. While it is still being tested, we are sure that it will be better.
Software Updates
Aside from the design being different from the Oculus Quest, the software that is installed in the Oculus Quest 2 is believed to be a little different as well.
As we have mentioned above, it has the possibility of having a wider Field of View because of the camera positioning and a better tracking system.
Since the original Oculus Quest is sometimes deemed as a slow VR headset, it is possible that Oculus is developing a much faster processor.
In fact, it has been speculated that the Oculus Quest 2 will have a faster refresh rate of 90Hz compared to the 60Hz of the original model.
It is also believed that the Oculus Quest 2 will use 4GB of RAM in its processor which means it will function faster and smoother. There are still unsure rumors about a 6GB and an 8GB RAM.
Release Date
There are still rumors that the Oculus Quest 2 will be released in early 2021. However, there are also some speculations that mass production has already begun.
So it is not impossible that the release of this amazing headset will be later this year with some users even saying that it will be released on September 15 of this year.
However, we cannot rely on those so we will just have to wait for Oculus’ official statement on when they will release the headsets.
Conclusion
So there they are, all the features that are included in the new and unreleased Oculus Quest 2. It promises a lot and so we should be expecting a lot.
Note that Oculus has not released any statement or trailer about this product so all the features mentioned are based on observations and comparison with the previous model.
So it still has the wireless and wired feature of the Oculus Quest meaning you can turn, spin, or go in any direction without having to be disturbed or get tripped over a wire.
It is also believed that the Oculus Quest 2 will be lighter so you will have more playing time without even feeling that there is a device on your head.
The Oculus Quest 2 will surely entertain you for longer as it will have longer battery life and more options since it is still available with the Oculus Link to connect it on your computer.
So that is it, we will have to wait for the official announcement of the release date. Just for now, keep on saving up for the Oculus Quest 2 so you can buy one of the first units that will be released!
