Recently I missed playing new VR horror games and as it is raining cats and dogs outside for the past few days, I went ahead and downloaded some new VR horror games and chucked my phone in the Merge VR and got started with the gameplay.
While looking for some good horror games, I did find a lot of new options and new content on Google Play which is pretty amazing. There were some really scary horror games and experiences that I felt every VR enthusiast should try.
I never expect that depth in VR quality from any of the mobile VR games, so considering that the games mentioned below did great. So, in case, you plan on comparing the quality of these games to the ones on the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive then you are going to be let down.
Mobile VR games are not as polished but they are still amazing to play and if you do not have a controller then you can even watch some horror experiences on them, trust me they are equally scary. Now without wasting any time let’s check out a few VR horror games-
Table of Contents
1.Sinister Edge – 3D Horror Game
Ratings- 4/5
Game URL- PlayStore Link
Sinister’s edge is a really scary game. That’s it. Five minutes into the game and my heart was pounding, the atmosphere and the sound effects are quite scary and you might actually be impressed at the quality of this VR game.
For a mobile VR game, Sinister Edge outperforms and actually keeps you engaged in the game for a really long time. You are going to be solving puzzles and mysteries as well as collecting items throughout the game.
But while you are doing all of this you realize that you are not alone and there is some shadow following you which was really scary in VR. Overall, the whole game has a spooky feel and it is a must for all the horror game enthusiasts.
2. VR Horror Tomb
Ratings- 4.6/5
Game URL- PlayStore Link
This horror game was okayish and not that scary. It was more of an adventure, puzzle game and less of a horror game. The game is engaging and you would love to play it but I didn’t find it scary at all.
It was more like a nice bright day where you are busy solving puzzles and someone is annoying you while you are at it. The game has a nice theme and the pharaonic style is a pretty good touch to it.
There might be a few places where you might start feeling a little freaked out but that’s it. It does not escalate from there and you are just engaged in solving puzzles and exploring the place. Overall, I did have fun but I would have liked it more if it was scarier.
3. GRANNY
Ratings- 4.5/5
Game URL- PlayStore Link
This is the scariest game of all on the list. You are locked in a house finding your way out but it is not easy as Granny is behind you and she keeps looking for you every now and then.
The game sends a chill down my spine every time I think about it. You need to hide from Granny and not let her see you trying to figure a way out, if she does then you are going to get into some serious trouble.
The atmosphere of the game and the entire gameplay is just amazing and if you have not played this game yet then you should definitely give it a go. The game is not for the faint-hearted so be prepared to be scared to death.
The game can be played again and again as everytime the position of the objects changes creating a new environment. Overall the gameplay was amazing, immersive and scary.
4. Midnight Awake
Ratings- 4.3/5
Game URL- PlayStore Link
This game was pretty okay on my ratings, it was good but and engaging but the only thing I felt could get better was if the developers had some map or help present.
The game gets a little tricky to figure out after a certain point. This might be the only issue I had with the game otherwise the graphics and everything else was on point and it is definitely a game you have to play.
You play the role of the protagonist in the game where you wake up at midnight and find out something mysterious in your house. The game had the suspense until the end and overall I felt that it was a pretty amazing gameplay.
5. The Walking Dead: Season One
Ratings- 4.5/5
Game URL- PlayStore Link
This game needs no introduction. It is from the Walking Dead series and if you have not played a game like this then you are missing out on a lot.
The only thing you might want to be careful about is the storage on your phone, the game takes around 1GB of storage space which is pretty huge. Another thing you should consider is that download the game only if you are okay with buying the other chapters.
The first chapter is free to play but you might have to pay for the others and if you are downloading such a huge game then just playing the first chapter does not make sense. However, the choice is completely yours.
The game was actually pretty scary and I loved the graphics. Probably the best graphics in the list of all games mentioned above and really engaging gameplay.
It gets really creepy when the zombies get close to you and honestly, I removed my headset once just because it got too scary.
Overall, this weekend was fun and all these games were pretty good and they kept me busy for quite some time.
If you have played any of them then let me know how you liked it in the comments below and if you have not played them yet ten pull out that phone and start downloading them.
Get the Merge VR which is around $30 and you are good to go.
