Audio Options on the PlayStation VR

July 16, 2017 by admin Leave a Comment

Most of us have these questions regarding the different audio options that come along with the PlayStation VR and if we can actually mirror the sound to external speakers. For now, mentioned below are the only options available when it comes to the audio options on the PlayStation VR and sadly the option of having the audio mirrored to external speakers is limited to the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive.

Wired Headphones

The PlayStation VR audio requires you to have wired headphones and does not play along with the wireless Bluetooth headphones. The 3D audio in the PlayStation VR makes you feel that you are right there in the VR world to experience some action. The PlayStation audio will only work if you plug in wired headphones and for more resources on this topic check out few of the other posts that are available on the site.

What is 3D audio?

The PlayStation VR accompanies its VR experience with a 3D audio which is the real deal. The 3D audio gives the much-needed VR effect when it comes to the VR sound effects and Sony has thought it through. The processing unit that comes along with the PlayStation VR syncs the audio and the visuals of the VR world.

Hence it is difficult to pair up the VR headset with Bluetooth headphones since all the headphones have to be connected to the processing unit. That is the reason only wired headphones are compatible and actually would be able to do justice to the VR audio to give you an immersive VR experience.

In 3D audio, the recordings are such that you feel the sound is coming from all around you just the way it happens in real life. This makes the VR experience more realistic, something that the developers usually aim for.

Best Headphone for PlayStation VR

The Plantronics Rig 4VR is specially designed for the PlayStation VR. When the PlayStation VR was released, Plantronics cleverly got us one of their headphones that were customized exceptionally for the PlayStation VR. The headphones are extremely light and they come with a nice sound quality that is perfect to pair it up with the PlayStation VR.

The headphones even have great comfort and are designed especially for long gameplay sessions. Plantronics usually have great headphones and it is amazing that they came up with the thought of having a headphone which would be used exclusively for the PlayStation VR.

The Vive has to come out with their audio strap recently which shows that audio is actually one of the most important features that can make or break your VR experience(except the lag of course). Do check out the Plantronics Rig 4VR headphones and let us know what you think about it in the comments section below.

You can even look at a few other headphone options that we have recommended in the headphones for PlayStation VR post on the website.
